Anniversary and Official Opening

MEDIA RELEASE

22 February 2018

Interaction Disability Services (Interaction) Celebrates 40 Years of Service, With New Premises to be Officially Opened by His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d), Governor of New South Wales.

Interaction began a new chapter in July 2018, with a move from Castle Hill to new premises located at 6/16 Lexington Drive, Bella Vista, part of Norwest Business Park’s thriving business community.

Interaction’s CEO Craig Moore is thrilled with the relocation: “As soon as you enter the building, you feel how special the space is. The new purpose built premises involved many months of planning, no stone was left unturned when it came to ensuring we provide the best facilities possible, to benefit participants and staff.”  The premises include a number of private therapy rooms, sensory room, training room and large activity room (where weekly dancing, music and bingo are held, amongst other activities).

The Hills School For Specific Purpose in Northmead is where the idea of a registered charity called ‘Interaction – The Hills Association for the Intellectually Disabled’ was conceived.  From humble beginnings in 1979, with a focus on maximising independence for people with intellectual disability, to opening the first shared and supported accommodation facility in 1982, to successfully transitioning to the National Disability Insurance Scheme in 2016 (with many milestones in-between).  As at 2019 Interaction has some 280 staff members.  We continue to provide the highest level of person-centred support and services to approximately 400 clients across Sydney in the areas of:  Accommodation, Direct Support, Support Coordination and Behaviour & Allied Health Services.

The Official Opening and 40th Anniversary celebration will be held at Interaction’s Bella Vista premises on Monday 18 March 2019.  Says Craig: ‘We are delighted to advise that His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d), Governor of New South Wales will officially open the premises.  We will also be joined by other dignitaries, our Board members, staff, participants, family members/carers and stakeholders – all coming together to celebrate this wonderful milestone.’   Members of the public and Media are invited to attend this event.
